Clouding of consciousness

Clouding of consciousness, also known as clouded sensorium or altered mental status, is a medical condition characterized by a state of confusion. 

It is a common symptom of various medical conditions, including infections, metabolic disorders, & neurological disorders. 

In clouding of consciousness, an individual may experience difficulty concentrating, have problems with memory, & have difficulty following conversations or comprehending instructions. 

They may appear disoriented or confused, have trouble staying alert or awake, & have trouble responding to stimuli.

Clouding of consciousness can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections such as sepsis, metabolic disorders such as liver or kidney failure, or neurological conditions. 

It can also be a side effect of certain medications or a result of drug or alcohol abuse.Diagnosis of clouding of consciousness involves a physical examination, neurological assessment, & medical history evaluation. 

Additional tests such as blood tests, imaging scans, or electroencephalography (EEG) may be necessary to determine the underlying cause.

Treatment of clouding of consciousness depends on the underlying cause and may involve addressing the medical condition causing the symptom.
